Semuc Champey National Monument

Semuc Champey is only reachable via a 4WD 19 km road.  I encountered massive banana trees, and a guy and his two sisters who carry 120 lbs of firewood 2 miles every day.  The firewood is for tortillas and frijoles. They were happy for a ride.

The river goes into a cave at the top of the canyon, and emerges in a series of pools.

Reaching the northern part of Guatemala requires taking a ferry.  A very under-powered ferry.
