La Paz is the highest (12k') capital in the world. It is set in a bowl between mountain ranges, and has a system of aerial cable cars to take the residents home on the sides of the mountains.
The Mi Teleférico employees are very helpful, and if they see you standing around looking like a dummy, they will offer to help you. This happened a lot to me for some reason. I never transited a station where at least 2 employees weren't cleaning.
I also visited the Chaco War Museum, commemorating a war between Paraguay and Bolivia in the early 1930s, over oil rich territory.
La Paz is overlooked by Illimani, a 21,122' peak. It is evidently a difficult climb.
