Lake Titicaca

Lake Titicaca (pronounced more like Titihaca) is full of superlatives.  It is the highest navigable lake in the world, at 13,000'.  It is shared by Peru and Bolivia.  Average depth is 350'.  It is considered the birthplace of the Incas, although they were preceded by the Tiwanaku.

The Uros people live on the water on floating artificial islands.

The SS Ollanta was built in England in 1931 using bolts, then disassembled, transported to Titicaca via rail, and reassembled with rivets.
