The drive from Uyuni, Bolivia to the Atacama Desert town of Calama, Chile is spectacular - among the most beautiful scenery on the planet. However, there is not a drop of gasoline to be had the entire way. Start out with a very full tank. And the road in Bolivia all the way to the Chilean border is dirt/mud. It is paved starting in Chile. I carried 15 liters in a spare jerry-can, but I hyper-miled and managed to get there on just a tank
The border crossing is very fast, although they do ask you to remove your luggage which they inspect. They never checked my VIN in Chile.
Despite a few lapses, driving in Chile is like driving in North America. It's a relaxing and welcome change. I'm told Argentina drivers are even better. UPDATE: Argentina drivers are worse.
In Peru and Bolivia, electricity is 220V, but you can use your phone charger as-is, because the plugs accept both style prongs. Before using your charger with 220V, make sure it says 100-240 or close, like 110-220 on it. But once you get to Chile, you'll need an adapter, such as this. I had purchased this for my kid for an Iceland school trip. As noted in the product description, it is NOT a voltage converter, just a prong adapter.
